It is our passion to honor our Veteran communities. We celebrate this month’s guest speaker, Mr. John Bagwell, a Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient and a Bronze Star.

John Bagwell was a disc jockey with American Forces Radio during the Vietnam War. While that would sound like a safe and easy job, he was assigned to a television and radio station that was taken by the enemy in Hue during the Tet Offensive in February 1968. Of nine Americans, five were taken prisoner, three were killed, and John was the only one to escape. He spent nearly 48 hours hiding out behind enemy lines and was shot at a dozen times by both the North Vietnamese and American forces who thought he was dead. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with a “V” device. You can hear his story of survival against the odds.
